A great looking lawn makes your home and entire property look best and is a great way to make your backyard a great outdoor space where you will want to spend more time. Here are some tips that you should adhere to when you are taking care of and mowing your lawn.
Care For Your Mower
As a first rule of lawn care, keep your mower in good condition. A lawn mower that has a sharp blade will trim the lawn tips cleanly and not leave them ragged looking. Ragged edges on your lawn tips will make the surface of your lawn have a brownish tint to it.
Also, make sure your mower blade is installed correctly. An incorrectly-installed mower blade is one of the most common errors a homeowner can make in their yard care. If you are not sure how to check the blade's installation, consult with a landscape professional.
Watch the Blade Position
With your lawn mower well maintained and the blade sharp, you can properly mow your lawn and look forward to a clean-cut lawn. However, you don't want to cut your lawn down too short, as this can expose the soil and the roots of your lawn. When the roots of your lawn are exposed to the sun's radiation they can dry out and die off. And your lawn will require more water to keep it healthy and hydrated.
But if you position your lawn mower blade high on your mower, this will trim your lawn at a longer length to provide shade to the bottoms of your lawn plants and their roots. If you keep your lawn at a longer length, you can go longer between your next lawn irrigation and your lawn will be healthier.
Replenish Your Lawn's Nutrients
As you mow your lawn you most likely use the collection bag to catch the lawn clippings. This method of mowing your lawn gives your lawn a nice clean and debris-free appearance but your lawn is missing out on a boost of nutrients. When you let the lawn clippings fall back upon your lawn, they replenish your lawn with essential nutrients that it needs to keep growing healthy.
However, you don't need to let the lawn clippings fall back into your lawn each time you mow. Consider leaving your lawn collection bag off your mower every three to four mowings to add nutrients back into your lawn. Just be sure you only mow your lawn when it is dry because a wet lawn will cause the clippings to clump together and cause your lawn to die off in spots.
